When poet and national idol Alessandro Manzoni, Verdi’s dear friend, passed away, he was too devastated to attend the funeral. Verdi composed a requiem to commemorate his life. Out of his pain and anguish, one of the most influential works for orchestra and voice was created.
Often regarded as “an opera in ecclesiastical vestments”, Verdi’s talent for dramatic writing is fully demonstrated in this extraordinary score for a significant number of musicians and a large chorus. Asking the big questions in life, it compels the audience on a fascinating musical journey from the depths of desperation to triumphant hope. Experience this unique work.
